Need money to buy a friend a birthday present!

cattieloves started this conversation

My friend's birthday is coming up, and I found a perfect gift for him on ebay - a mountain dulcimer (he's kind of weird, but I love him, haha)! It's exactly what he wants, he let it slip out a while ago and I want to surprise him with one! Here's the best part - these things usually are sold for over $100, but I found one on ebay for only $30! The problem - I am a poor college student who can barely afford food and books, let alone a $30 gift for a friend.

The auction ends fairly soon, so I need help fast!

Your help is so very appreciated! Thank you for helping me get my friend a very special gift.

Reply to ronna:---Instead of blaming the Obama administration for not having money for a car you should be thanking your lucky star that he is our president because our government bailed out fannie Mae and Freddie Mac both of whom give out your student loans. You are very lucky to be able to go to college and your young and strong so walking shouldn't be a problem for you. As far as getting a job and going to college at the same time, why not? I started college at the age of 46, and took a full load of credits every quarter, oh! and took care of my 5year old and husband and worked nights. If you ask around on campus I bet you could find a part time job either in the cafeteria or for cleaning services or how about tutoring? If you are hungry enough for a car you will find a way to get one,no one is going to give you one so start looking for work right there in your back yard. I do wish you the best, you don't know it now but these college years are going to be the best years of your life. sincerely sheshe030

Honey,

This is how it is being a college students. Its was this way many, many years ago when I was a college student also. No one 'gave' us a car. While in college I worked a part-time work study job & saved up and bought my first car. It was $800 dollars.

Alot of those so called rich people in your community were 'poor students too'.

Most have learned that their 'hard times' in college produced character & a drive to succeed.

This too will come to pass. I walked many a miles while in college. No need to do walking for 'exercise' or cardio.

Wish you the best

I need a car too.  The Obama stimulus for some reason is not helping students in any respect with finances.  We have to walk, bum rides, worry about the beginning of feeling the signs of hunger pains-the next time we get hungry-which is a continous thing, because eatting expenses are so high, some students do go hungry.  I know a few students who have to resort to eatting rotten fruit (that has been given to them).  I swear, I get so upset everytime I think about this.

I have to walk everywhere, and as I look at all the cars at the crosswalks, I wonder when are  my walking days ever going to come to an end-never?

I emailed Elen Degeneres and ask for her show to donate me a car, or find someone that could help........um no response.

I cannot believe that there are individuals who cannot afford to buy cars.

I live in a large city here in Lexington, KY, and the pubic transportation is so limited-and I have the slightest clue why....I mean........why????

Students cant make a lot of money...they have financial aid to meet....bills to pay; food, telephone etc...my lab partner was a poor student....she had a hard time......and where are the rich people in a poor students time of need........right here in Lexington, there are rich people and college students are hungry...and these college students are good students...make good grades.......and no one in this city appreciates it.  No wonder students leave when they graduate....they feel the city is too selfish to and this does not inspire any student to stay living in Lexington, so the students move to other states, and other areas to produce possibilities for others, since it seems like the rich have all the possibilities here to accomplish....and so they are settled and selfish.

So, if anyone has it in their heart to donate a car to me, I will be sure and make sure that my fellow students have a ride too.

I challenge citizens in Lexington, KY to start a volunteer program to help students get to class with a donated ride, I know it would be appreciated, and I know that a lot of students would help with some of the expense at their best efforts.

Come on Lexington it is time to start rocking for the college students in this town.
